Why Heber-Overgaard?

Nestled just two and a half hours from Phoenix, the Heber-Overgaard Community is a serene retreat set in the cool Ponderosa Pines of the Mogollon Rim, and entirely surrounded by the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Here, you’ll find breathtaking hiking, fishing, hunting, and ATV trails, along with abundant wildlife.

Whether you’re visiting to explore, shop, dine, or consider making it your home, Heber-Overgaard offers a unique blend of natural beauty and small-town charm. Come experience a place where there are more trees than buildings, more wildlife than people, and more trails than roads. It’s truly, “Perfect In All Seasons.”

Climate

Heber-Overgaard enjoys a unique variation of the four seasons, characterized by a dry period in early summer, followed by rain showers in the summer months. Fall/winter are the cooler months with some snow accumulation.

While similar to more traditional climates, it also experiences a higher frequency of forest fires during the dry summer season.

Parks and Rec

Heber-Overgaard boasts a range of community amenities, including a public library, a 40-acre park with Pickleball court.

Just south of Heber-Overgaard, the Mogollon Rim rises dramatically, with an escarpment ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 feet in elevation. This scenic Rim separates the northern plateau from the lower central and southern regions and offers stunning views and numerous man-made lakes perfect for fishing.

The area is a popular destination for hunting elk and deer while fishing enthusiasts enjoy the nearby lakes.

Picnic and camping facilities are available, and other notable attractions include Black Canyon Lake, Willow Springs Lake, Woods Canyon Lake, Chevelon Canyon Lake, the Canyon Creek Fish Hatchery, Chevelon Butte, and the Fort Apache Indian Reservation.

Education

The Heber-Overgaard Unified School District provides education for the community through a range of schools: Mountain Meadows Primary School (Pre-K–3), Capps Middle School (4–6), Mogollon Junior High School (7–8), and Mogollon High School (9–12). The district supports an approximate student enrollment of 471.

Northland Pioneer College, a state-accredited community college, serves Navajo County through its satellite centers. These centers are located in Holbrook, Show Low, Snowflake/Taylor, and Winslow, offering remote access to higher education opportunities.
