On May 8th, 2017 the Heber Overgaard Chamber of Commerce received a letter from the Arizona Department of Transportation. In that letter we were notified that in order to receive a permit for our 4th of July Parade the Chamber of Commerce would need to hire a Professional Certified Traffic Control Company. ADOT in years past has permitted the parade without this requirement since the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Public Safety (DPS) Law Enforcement Agencies were present and assisted. However, both agencies stated their resources are limited this year and both have expressed concerns regarding safety issues from previous years. It is at that point the Chamber of Commerce reached out to two different companies asking for an estimate of the cost for this service, as well as, if they would even be available for July 1st. As of May 22, 2017 we have not received a response from either of these companies. We are sad to inform our community that as a result of this new request, the Chamber of Commerce will be canceling this year’s parade. Please know that everyone involved in the planning of our parade has tried to resolve this in various different ways and are truly sad to make this decision. We will do our best to try and resolve these issues for next year’s parade.
